Maria Theresa was born in Vienna as the eldest daughter of Emperor Charles VI and Elisabeth of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. In 1713 Charles issued the Pragmatic Sanction which guaranteed his daughter the right to succeed to the Austrian throne on his death. |
